| laptop can't connect to wireless Internet from standby/hibernate
I have a Toshiba laptop running XP / SP2, and a wireless router (from my ISP - BT) to connect to the Internet, and I run a small network via the router, to connect the Tosh to my desktop PC and its printers. If I do a full restart on the Tosh, it connects to the Internet (and to the desktop) OK. From either standby or hibernate, it doesn't connect to either Internet or desktop. It does however connect to the router - I can go to the router home page, and change settings.
I can make it connect to the Internet / PC by right-clicking on the wireless icon in the system tray, and running 'repair' (which is slow). The IP address on the Tosh seems fine - from standby, it picks up the same IP address as the one it gets following a repair
The following stuff does't fix it: - In Wireless Network Connection, Disconnect followed by Connect
- From Cmd, running ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /repair
ipconfig /all reports as follows:

Hey there,
Take a quick try at this,
go to command prompt
type in: ipconfig/release
then: ipconfig/flushdns
then: ipconfig/renew |

My Hero!
It works. Well done, and thanks very much.
When I run the ipconfig /flushdns command, I get an error - "Could not flush the DNS resolver cache: Function failed during execution", but it still does the job.

Great,
Now if it says it can't resolve then must me a windows service disabled.
Try enabling tcp/ip netbios helper, set to automatic
I don't really recall which service it is exactly but it's definately one of them because I've been there before with same issue.
There are many many sites telling which services to enable and disable.
Mostly I found out many needed programs stop working.
So go here and they will tell you exactly what they are used for and you decide if need or not. http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm |

Hi Quickoldcar
Still haven't made the laptop come up working from standby, but I have got rid of the DNS cache error, by turning on the DNS Client service. According to Microsoft, you don't need the service, it just speeds things up, but running it should stop the error message (and does).
I compared the laptop services with those running on the desktop (which comes up OK). I did find some differences, but I didn't find anything which looked like causing the problem. It is OK as it is, even if I (or in this case, you) can't fix the problem, but it would be nice to sort it out. Any other ideas appreciated, otherwise, thanks for your help.
