| need help before i tear up my system
i have dsl with mindspring.com. i have not been able to get online all afternoon. (i had to put my laptop on dialup).
how can i tell if it is because of something i did or my service?
i called mindspring and they said that there was nothing wrong on their end. couldn't help me because i don't have their software installed(winpoet) and i am connected through a router.
then i called billing and they said that they couldn't check my bill because their computer was down.(but shouldn't affect my not being able to get on line)
my main system is running win2k.
where do i look to see if everything is alright from my end?
i added filetopia to my system last night. this morning and early this afternoon i was still able to connect. went out and came back and i haven't been able to connect since.
i unplugged the modem and router a couple of times and still nothing.
please someone help me.(i want to get my speed back)

You need to call tech support again.
Why don't you have winpoet installed? I thought you needed that? |

Try turning off your modem then unplugging your Router for 2-3 seconds than plugging it back in. I have to do this occassionally as I dont allow certain services to access the net. As a result, my DNS and other services (ISP related) dont update. I suspect it then does not receive update info from ISP, making it freeze and not function- it just sits there when I try to connect. I do the above and everything works fine then. I do not really know the ins and outs as to why this occurs, but do not like certain things accessing the net. I have cable, so the situation is probably a little different, but its worth a try. GoodLuck |

i had the whole system turned off all night. when i cut it back on this morning i still couldn't connect.
i tried connecting without the router but it didn't work.
i think i need winpoet installed for that to work. i don't have a modem installed in my main system.
i have a modem in my laptop. can i install winpoet to my laptop and then connect laptop directly to modem and get my laptop running on the dsl line and then hook up my other systems to the router.
laptop running winxp.
