    Wanadoo Livebox Static IP

I'm trying to setup Static IP's using the Wanadoo Livebox on a friends laptop and desktop. While i'm quiet familiar with how to do this in both XP and ME(His Laptop and Desktop respecitvely) I seem to be missing a step.

I've gone into control panel/network settings and adjusted the TCP/IP settings for both XP/ME machines to a fixed IP, i've also set the gateway and DNS server settings correctly

    Wanadoo Livebox Internal IP 192.168.1.1
    Static IP(Machine 1 - Desktop) 192.168.1.2
    Static IP(Machine 2 - Laptop) 192.168.1.3

    Gateway address 192.168.1.1

The Livebox has the option to turn off DHCP and set an address range however I cannot seem to find anything for reserving static LAN IP adresses to hostnames, i.e the 2 computers that I've set static ip's for.

I've tried restarting both machines after the TCP/IP change, however neither seem to want to connect until I turn DHCP back on and remove the static IP's

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Not want to connect in what ways? Cant ping anything on the same subnet or cant get internet?

I assume the wanadoo is a router ( never heard of it) as for the DHCP client, some home routers don't really have many options when it comes to DHCP. Pretty much all you can do is change the starting address and how many DHCP leases the router will give.

limited the no: of DHCP releases, didn't help much either, but no bother - its his router and he doesn't miss networking anyway - im just one of those people who hates loose ends.

Wanadoo Livebox was from the French ISP/Phone provider "Freeserve" who changed their company name to Wanadoo and were bought over by Orange in Europe recently. Speaking from experience their Hardware(by inventel/Alcatel) is the worst in the world.
