The router gets the ISP that shows up on the myip website.
The ip address you get is an internal ip address from the router.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Plug the cable modem into your computer, that will give you a public ip address.
I wasn't saying you were doing anything illegal, i was asking what you are trying to accomplish. From there maybe other members can give you suggestions.
But as long as you are behind the router, you will not get a public ip address

Changing your WAN IP (the IP that the router has on the internet) can be accomplished by unplugging your cable modem for anywhere between 20 minutes to a couple of hours - pending on how your cable company handles DHCP.
Changing your LAN IP (the IP that your computer has) can be changed by using the command 'ipconfig /renew' in a DOS window. Or by changing the DHCP rules on your router to distribute a different range of IP's. Or by giving yourself a static IP in the Network Connections window under the Control Panel.
This is just my guess, but from what I've read so far, I am guessing you are talking about your WAN IP. Changing your LAN IP has no affect on what people see on the outside of your network - they only see the WAN IP of your router.Im against picketing, but I dont know how to show it.

Often this is difficult with cable internet. Cable companies often have dhcp lease times of one month or more. Don't be too surprised if you never get another IP. Though in theory, if your modem were to have troubles and need to be replaced, the new modem would have a different mac and would force the dhcp server to lease you a new ip....
If you want to host servers, you may want to call your isp and find out if they offer static ip's. If they don't (or for a reasonable price), you may want to consider a different service. I pay $15 a month for a block of 8 statics (5 usable) at home.
If you believe it is important for future generations to learn about computers. Please help--- http://computer4kids.us

What level of common sense and Basic reasoning/logic do you have? Slim or None?
Take a look at the dang thread and reply dates, your about 5 & 1/2 years too late in replying.
Add to that, you previously posted here a minute before making the reply in this thread
IP address conflict
asking to change your ip, and yet here you are giving advice on how to do so?
Seriously?
In any case, your more than likely just spamming the URL link in your reply.
Besides there's an IP link for users on the right hand side of this page, small text/image, integrated into this forum, clicking on it will show your IP, and general area where your IP Originates from.

God people! Lets just end this by saying how to really change your IP address. Typically you can use the MAC address clone function in your router. Change the last 3 groups of 2 in the MAC address. Looks like this: 1A:CB:CC:17:7F:FF The first 3 of 2 groups represent what type of hardware you have so don't change that. After you change the last three in the MAC address save. Now reset your modem by pressing the reset button on the modem for at least 15 seconds. Remember that a MAC address is 0-9 A-F.
You should check to see what your IP address is first by going to Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and then check your IP address again after you use the MAC address clone feature.
