User unable to open file on shared drive

Hi all!

I manage a local network upon which is a shared drive so that several users can access any files required. I've encountered a problem whereby one user is unable to open a particular file (in this case an Excel document). All permissions are set correctly (inherited from parent directory), and all other users granted access to the file have no problems opening & modifying it. I've removed this one users permissions and then set them again, but to no avail.

I'm at a bit of a loss now, so if anyone has any suggestions I'd be extremely grateful.

Thanks in advance!

This is XP Pro?

Have you right clicked the shared drive to make sure all permissions there where set?

May have to look under administrative tools, Local security policy for changes or the error log on his/her computer even yours. This is all under the control panel.

Could also have a some registry corruption. Has the clients and/or yours been reset sense you last re-added the user? Don't know if you leave them on all the time or not. Just wondering if things would have been updated like they should have when you made these changes.

When this person tries to open the document, does it say any error? Or it just can't be found?

Hi! Thanks for the reply!

The file in question is on an NT4 based sever. All other users on the network can access the file no problem, bu this one user cannot access from any workstation. All permissions are set exactly the same for all users so this isn't the cause of the problem.

I'm completely baffled!!!
