Basic wireless setup questions
Hey Man
I've just ordered virgin broadband 8mb unlimited(be here in about 1 week).
I'm staying in a caravan in my parents garden and want broadband on my laptop in the caravan.
I also don't want to affect my parents phonelines/bills/computers e.t.c.
So what I want is a wireless transmitter plugged into the wall in the house sending broadband to my laptop, nothing else.
Do I need a wireless router or a combined router/modem?
Can you guys recommend a good make/speed e.t.c. of router?
I intend to get one on ebay.
Though I've ordered up to 8mb, I've learned that the exchange in my area is only capable of up to 5mb till december 2007.
Cheers Man

Is this a DSL connection? You could get a combined DSL modem/wireless router, or get a separate modem and router. Either way will work the same, but keep in mind that a wireless signal can drop off quickly if there are any obstructions in the way, like walls or trees. Ideally you want a line of sight between the router's antenna and any wireless clients.

Hi Danu
I'm pretty sure its an ADSL connection.
Virgin are sending me a modem, so I will just need a router then?
Can you recommend any good ones?
Cheers
