Internet Connection

I have 3 computers in my house. One is wired and 2 are wireless. My wired connection is fine. My two wireless has a low signal. What can I do to get them up to speed?

Placement of your router is crucial. Do you live in a two story house or tri-level where you might have possible obstructions? Sometimes other signals can degrade performance too, for example; Cordless 2.4 GHz phones or wireless electronic equipment that commonly use the 2.4 GHz band.

There are many other factors that may be attributed to your signal loss. You may be able to remedy the situation by merely adjusting your software and/or hardware. Have you tried changing channels in your laptop and the router? Channel 11 is a slightly higher frequency, it may work better to cut through obstructions. However higher frequencies bounce off metal in all directions. You are not in a metal structure?

I'm told mirrors along hallways and such help the signal.

I've never had the need though to test this.

If it's a usb based wireless, I used to have to hang mine near the floor to get the 100% signal. For my one computer I had to add a longer USB extension wire to it.

In my case channel 6 works the best for me, would need to type in your router IP in the address bar to get into the router. Then in wireless settings can change the channel.

If really desperate can buy whats called a "wireless repeater".
You set this somewhere at the halfway mark between your router and wireless devices.

Mirrors along hallways? LOL!!!!!

The higher in the house you place the router, the better. Of course, this also applies to hackers, so make sure you are using WPA or at least WEP.

Ok So I did "hear" of the mirror.

I thought it was to improve but actually it hurts the signal, not because of the mirror but because of the thin metal thats in the mirror.
