| Vista and a WRT54G not getting along
Long story short a friend just bought a dell laptop with vista on it and a linksys wrt54g. He tried running the "easy setup" and couldn't get them to play nicely so calls me to come over. Well I'm thinking quick simple no issues...yeah right
Connect everything, wired of course even disable the wireless adapter, hit the setup page 192.168.1.1 and all I get is a pop saying enter the password. The manual say username field should be blank and admin is the password...err that didn't work. Tried admin admin notta! Tried running the quick setup...notta it runs to 100% then say enter password tried that nothing!!
Am I missing something here, what was I doing wrong?? The router works fine, everything else connects fine. I just can't hit the set-up page to secure his network

I just bought the same exact router 3 days ago. Ihad to establish an admin account for windows which i never had before. Then put that name in where it says to leave blank then try the admin password. |

Hmm I wonder if maybe thats it, I don't use Vista and when I did it was on a limited basis. I don't really see how being on an admin or none admin account would make a difference to the log-in o the router though, but I could see that being one of those M$ things. |

I dont use vista either,it took me like an hour to figure this out. You can try that Richie but dont hold me to it , I was so frustrated I think i got in on accident. I setup an user account as administrator simply labeled it owner put that in the box and the typed admin as password. Or since i cant remember too well ,it might have been what i named the network in the easy setup..... |

Did you try hitting the reset button on the back of the router?
I don't know why the user/pass wouldn't be the default. The accounts with windows shouldn't matter at all (you are connecting through IE or some web browser, right?).

I didn't really see how Vista could be the culprit but thats thew only thing I wasn't too familiar with so I wasn't sure. |

Make sure you let us know what fixed it if you get it working.
Maybe try a different web browser, just a random thought, maybe IE is screwing things up with a blank username, or isn't letting the content through with one of it's restrictions? I guess it's worth a try at least, I really doubt IE would be the cause however. |

Yeah I only had a little while to mess with it because he had to leave. So I told him I'd look around and see if I can find and answer and come back over. Everything works fine its just not secure |

Nope I haven't had the chance to go back over there and mess with it. I was checking a few things on the linksys site yesterday. And found a few other people having issue but never really did find a solution. Don't worry I will post back once I get it figured out. |
