Vista no longer can access wireless network

Windows vista is on a laptop with built-in wifi.Wifi used to work but not anymore.

Using linksys router, the SSID, encrypt type and method and passphrase all match up when resetting up a new wifi network on laptop.

It then asks to go ahead and connect. It DOES say connected to unidentified network (linksys), but no web pages load at all. If it is hardwired, it will immediately work fine.

If this helps at all-
When mouse is moved over the wifi and lan connection icons in lower right corner of screen, the LAN(when hardwired) says -
Connected Local and Internet
But when the wifi is connected, it just says-
Connected... Local

It says nothing about internet. I don't know if that helps but there it is.
I am not familiar with vista yet so I'm stumped.

Do you get an ip address from the router?

If so can you ping the router?

ok i'm back.

No i didn't. The laptop was then sent to another wireless network and it was able to sign onto there instantly so i told the guy to press and hold the "Cisco" button on the router which sets up basic wireless network settings for him since there is something wrong with the router's settings.... but nothing we could ever find.

I'll post when it's operational

Maybe it is because of the Network Access Protection (NAP) with Vista's Network Center. Microsoft's NAP is a client server technology designed to protect your network from 'unhealthy' machines.

It is designed to restricts access at the wireless access points until the clients are confirmed as healthy.

can you elaborate more on NAP?

There is 1 other pc on this router that we are having problems with. It's hard wired and ix on Windows XP. Of course it's fine.

Is there anything you would like me to do\try because i am unfamiliar with NAP and the wireless network that worked instantly for his laptop was at a local restaurant.
