Adding Appletalk to a NT Lan
I have a buddy who is needing to add a few MAC workstations to his companies (my old employment) Lan and was told that he wasnt allowed to add Appletalk to the Domain Server because of Wins conflicts. I have never heard of this. Is this true and if so how can you get around it?

WINS isnt actually compatible with Appletalk, only with TCP/IP and netBEUI. That's the problem with WINS. Nobody but Microsoft uses/used it, under windows NT networking environments. In fact Windows 2000 doesn't use it either, it is only bundled with 2k for backward compatibility issues.
I doubt you can get around it, well not to my knowledge anyway.

If you are only interested in file and printer sharing.....add Apple services to your NT server... It works fine for me and has worked great in all the instances that I have used it. I have yet to have any problems. I do prefer a fully networked printer to sharing a printer that is attached to a computer, but most problems of printer sharing can be worked thru, if you have the time. If you want to share programs, I would go with Citrix. I hope this might help.
