where did my wireless card go?

I have an old HP ze5200 laptop with built in wireless. It all of a sudden quit finding my, or any, wireless signal but when I checked it said that the device was working properly. I have just reinstalled winxp pro and now my laptop doesn't even detect the wireless mini pci. I tried taking the card out and putting it back in, and still nothing. Any suggestions? Is my card bad?

Have you installed the driver for the card?

Yes, i installed the driver, but still nothing. Where can I look to see if the card is being seen by the computer?

Device Manager is the place to look..
If it's got a yellow question mark, then you need a driver
If it's got a red circle with a hash through it, means it's disabled

Have you installed the proper chipset drivers?

i'm not sure what chipset drivers are? sorry for ignorace... also, i'm wondering if my netgear mr814 is even sending out a wireless signal -- and another thing, after reformatting and reinstalling xp pro the power button on the front of my laptop is on constantly, i cannot turn it off, but still no signal being picked up. anyone make anything of this, and am i just not knowledgeable enough to know what else i need to do?
