Cat6 network splitter

Cat5e can do gigabit as well, but really doesn't achieve those speeds unless they are under perfect conditions.

A splitter shouldn't affect the quality of the signal much unless it was a really bad job of splitting it.

Hubs are usually pretty expensive (not sure why), usually more than another switch at least. A cheap gigabit switch is $30-50.

hey -
can anybody help? my building is wired with cat 6 and i need to put ina splitter - what i put in the cat5/5e splitter i lost my network connections - what do i need to do - and i am not a techie so make it real SIMPLE for me - please!!!
i thought after reading everything above - it would work, but it's not.
do i need to buy an ethernet hub too? or a gigabit switch?
or just a hub?

Apparently you need to have a splitter on both ends and use the otherwise unused wires as another line.

You would probably want a switch.
