Hi, I have a Wireless ADSL router up and running. My 13 year old son is getting an XBox for Christmas and can't afford the £60 ($120USD) for the wireless attachment. I have a spare, new wireless router and was hoping to connect that wirelessly to the original one, and then that act as a wired router to both the XBox and his PC. Details and specs as follows (| is wired, { is wireless):
ADSL/phone line
|
Netgear DG834GT (already installed, running 3 PCs/lap-tops)
{
Dynamode R-ADSL-C4-EG
|
XBox360 & PC
I've had mixed messages about what the Dynamode router can and can't support. In the admin interface there's certainly teh option to configure WDS as bridge, repeater or crude, but the Dynamode tech support have said "Unfortunately, the R-ADSL-C4-EG Router cannot operate as a Repeater. The Router can be configured to work as a Wireless Distribution System (WDS), but you need TWO identical Routers to establish this type of connection". When pressed they did say that "The WDS feature is not completely specified in IEEE or Wifi standards. Therefore interoperability between 802.11 products of different vendors is not guaranteed" which suggests it may be possible.
One other option is to swap them round and have the Dynamode one as the primary ADSL router.
Can anyone give me any pointers? I'm a complete newbie to this, but have the ability to learn!
Thanks, James
