How do I stop unwanted dialup...

Marcia's machine connects to the Internet through my LinkSys router, just as mine does. We both have occasional problems with our DSL connection, so we have dialup as a backup. I've set my WinXP Home connection so that it never dials up automatically when the DSL goes down; I have to manually open that connection. But for some reason, I can't seem to set Marcia's machine the same way. Worse yet, hers often dials up when the DSL connection is working perfectly.

Any thoughts?

I just may have solved the problem. In IE7/tools/internet options/connections, she had a setting that was "Dial whenever a network connection is not present". I changed it to "Never dial a connection". We'll see if that works.

I didn't think of it before because we don't use IE, but of course the machine doesn't know that.

You can also find the dialup connection and disable it (right click and choose disable), then just enable it if you need it.
