| Help!! Belkin Router not holding Internet Connection
Before i start i am aware that the router im discussing is ridden with issues but the determination in me hopes i can find the answer to make it work. Here we Go:
I have a Belkin ADSL Moden with Wireless G Router (model: FSD7632). I have wired it up to my pc using ethernet rather than wirelessly to start. I have went to the configuration wizard (192.168.2.1) and all seemed to set up well till i realised that the router wasnt hosting the internet connection.
Even after trying to manualy configure it i am still having no joy.
My PC dosent have an ethernet connection on the motherboard and so it conects through a PCI slot but im almost certain this shouldnt be the issue as my connection worked with my usual modem.
My ISP is AOL.
The router is connecting as IP 192.168.2.1 as requested in the manual.
The ethernet PCI connection is IP 192.168.2.2. Auto Config.
My OS is XP Home SP2.
Many thanks for any help or advice given! |

Have you been to your ISP's web page to find out what your ADSL settings should be in the modem/router?
I want to make sure of certain things. Go to Start | run | and enter CMD. In the black DOS box enter . Now you can right click, select all, press CTL C to copy and paste that into a text file.
While you have CMD open type Does it ping?
Try your router with the ping command. It's Does it ping?

Have done the IP config doc as an attatchment. the issue is that for me to be on the net i have to unplug the router and use my original modem as the router wont hold the connection.
The first ping worked but the second one timed out as the router isnt connected?!
Sorry, not much help i know.

Do a ping to 192.168.0.1 this is the Netgear router as shown in the text file for Default gateway. Your PCI adapter's IP address is 192.168.0.2
Ping both of those IP's now.
Your router works?
You may also want to go into the control panel | Internet opinions \ choose the connections tab and select "Never Dial A Connection" Click OK.
The text file you uploaded here I would delete now. It contains your ISP's IP address. This is not something you want to share. The default gateway and adapter IP addresses are all that is needed. |
