i have used norton pc anywhere and VNC both are good programs and have decent security. norton is availible on 30 day trial and VNC is free . you get both from cnet.

I have also used VNC and it works well. Also depending on what OS you are running, Terminal Services(Win2Kserver, XP) is an option. I also believe you can setup WINS as well for file sharing. (although I have never used WINS)

Which OS? If they're running Win2K or WinNT server, you can set up a permanent VPN tunnel. It's easier in Win2K.
Otherwise, take a look at
Radmin . It's cheap ($35), very fast, secure, and has a file transfer option. You can't fix stupidity.

I would vote for a VPN setup if you are running win2k server on both file servers. Do you have routers connecting each server to your DSL line? If they are Cisco routers then you probably can use them to make your VPN connection. VPN would just be more secure incase you have data you do not want someone to get.

Re: Lan to Lan using DSL
Both servers are using Windows 2k, We tried using PC anywhere with a normal (Voice) line but is too slow. We are now acquiring DSL line. Question ? using VPN or Terminal Services of windows which is less costly, considering the hardware, to buy i.e. ( DSL routers or Cisco routers).Originally posted by gino11

Well, using the Win2k VPN over terminal services would be better. You get the secure connection between the two sites. VPN comes with Win2k server so there is no extra cost there. Just make sure you have enough CALs.
Or, you could look into a VPN capable router on each end. For your DSL connection it is good to have a router as your gateway and since you will be buying them anyway, you could spend the extra money for a firewall and VPN capable one. Cisco routers are the better choice but you have to pay for it. Symantec sells one and so does linksys. You will have to shop around. VPN is getting pretty popular these days over Frame Relay. Or at least it seems.
Good luck!!
