my router came with some software.. but it was not needed... i didn't even open the software and I'm up and running.. my ISP is DHCP so I did not even have to change the settings on my network PC's to get the router to work... pretty much plug and play! hehehe

Last night I connected the RG1000 to my Linksys Befsr41 througha CAt5 cable. There is a connection from the router to my 10/100 card but no internet connection?I connected the RG1000 to port # 4 and tried port #1.Do I need a crossover cable from my RG1000 to my Router.
I have considered getting a "Hub" and trying that?Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing

Okay with the linksys you do not need a cross over cable; a cross over is ONLY used for two computers that do not have a hub, switch, or router between them.
mad1 start all over again.
Unplug the cable modem, the router and turn off all the machines
Then plug the cable back in. Let it receive send and go thru all the motions. Then turn on the router. Let it sit for a second with the cable modem. Then power on one machine.
Make sure that all the lights on the router are on that is on the router. Then when the first machine turns on. Log into the router
192.168.1.1 password:admin
When you are in there put in your host name and domain name.
Your host name I believe should be the computer name i.e cx44444-a (or if you never used a CX number of some sort put in any name like you feel)
And the domain depending on who is giving you service. i.e mine is est.va.coxs.net
If you do not know what to put in either call up your cable company and ask what your host name should be and domain.
Set auto ip address to obtain automatically
Then go to the status page and see if the router received an ip address. If not then there should be a renew button click it several times. if this does not work then unplug just the cable modem, let it set for one minute then plug it back in and let it load back up. then relog on the router to see if the ip address in the status page has changed (remember in most cases your ip address will not be static, coxs says my ip address is supposed to change every 4 hours to stop servers from home computers. but mine hasn't changed since coxs moved over to the new network)
note: you can only log on to the router once!!!!!! If your try to log on to the router from two different machines the router will have a fit! The first time I set this up I was trying to log on to it from two different machines at one time and my linksys refused to work
After that it should work
If all else fails then update the firmware here
hope it goes well for you mad1

My RG1000 is working, according to my ISP.I am going to try a crossover cable between the RG1000 and the BEFSR41.The RG1000 has routing and the BEFSR41 also has routing, coulc this be my problem, how can I solve this?
How can I disable the routing in my BEFSR41 without the software installed for the router?
What is the difference between the Netgear EN104tp and the Netgear En104TPNA.Last edited by mad1; May 15th, 2002 at 09:49 AM.

I would have done it a little differently. I would have connected the WAP to the LAN side of the router and put the WAP in infrastructure mode (aka bridge mode). Then connect the Internet connection to the WAN port of the BEFSR41.
HTTP to the IP address of the BEFSR41 and use those admin functions. How can I disable the routing in my BEFSR41 without the software installed for the

DO I type "192.168.1.1" in the web address window, like typing a new website address?
Password for the router, must be default (never changed).Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing

May 15th, 2002, 01:26 PM #70Yes, you could just click here too ...and then consult the manual for the default password.Originally posted by mad1

try http://192.168.0.1 (I don't remember the BEFSR41 's defaults)

one of them is a quick setup guide... I can only assume it is a pretty wizzard type user interface that automates some of the setup... perhaps sets your PC to DHCP for you and etc..
(it said something about setup wizzard on the front hehe)
the other disc... i'm not sure.. I didn't look at it too long.. i'll check them out tonight and see if they do anything interesting..
-
May 15th, 2002, 06:43 PM #76yes that is the default.. however you can only access it if your connected to the router's LAN..Originally posted by GroundZero3
the default should be 192.168.1.1
hrm weird
you can switch the value inside the setup I believe.. if you wanted more local security perhaps..

Connected with a crossover cable directly to my 10/100 card and made a connection to the internet. There is something wrong in my setup as to why I cannot use the BEFSR41 with the RG1000.I was able to enter the IP address to the router and I did disable DCHP but ran out of time to do anymore.
Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing
