Copy Throttle - Limiting Windows Copy Data Throughput

In looking for a method to throttle copy large files/folders across a WAN I came across two free tools. I haven't used either just yet, but it looked to be a better solution that a manual throttle of the entire sending machine using our packet shaper for the duration of the file copying.

    Nullsoft Copy

Download Total Copy 1.2 - A handy shell extension, that allows you to pause and resume file copies under Windows - Softpedia

The goal was to preserve bandwidth as using Windows' Copy will send data across the network using any bandwidth it can grap, essentially slowing down the entire network segment for the duration of the large copy since it is going across a WAN where there will be a bandwidth bottleneck. Using an FTP setup was not an option for this particular need, and it's not an issue that will stick around so a complex setup like a torrent is not needed.

I just wanted to share this as it could be very useful for many of us. I'll let you know how well it worked - I may even try both.

How often are you copying such large files over? Majority of people wait till the off hours to transfer large amounts of data over the WAN.

There isn't much in the way of off-hours given our global reach and centralized structure, though there are peak times that can be avoided.

Welcome to Total Copy official homepage

More finds I probably won't try:

    KillCopy

Copy your files faster with TeraCopy

I may try this one, though:

    SourceForge.net: Supercopier

Right now this is a one time deal with multiple destinations, though if it works well it may be utilized rarely in the future.
