OK well I am at my friends house who has HUGHESNET, it is supposed to be high speed according to there advertisements, but when I try to download something I am .1kb/s to 4kb/s, why is this they said that its supposed to be high speed? its not even comparing to dial up, am I doing something wrong? If not please explain why this happens.

Hughesnet is satellite only I believe.
If you are on a satellite connection the speed you get is very dependent on things like weather, interference, correct positioning of the satellite dish, etc.
No satellite internet available in the US is "fast" by any means (unless you compare it to dial-up). Even the cheapest DSL packages are usually faster.

It also depends on what your downloading and from whom. A file from a small site located out of zimbobway is going to be a bit slower then something hosted off a major backbone in huston or SF. |
