hi guys i've been having qwest 5mbps dsl for like almost two years and it worked fine until recently
i used to get around 4.5mbps but recently it's been really slow, sometimes 3mbps sometimes 1.5mbps. i tried everything but the problem still persists.
the tech told me that the problem could the phone line but it worked fine for 2 years so i'm a bit skeptical about having a tech come check because of the fee. has anyone of you experienced this? |

| Well, this may be the result of a background running application that uses your dsl or some trojans. Scan your PC for viruses and then go task manager (control + alt + delete), press processes tab and search for every process name on the google. This may help u. Be also sure that your router is working properly. Otherwise, ask your phone company (not service provider) about this problem. |

DSL is prone to getting slower if and when many of your neighhbors are online at the same time. |

Another possibility is line noise. Windows will try to read noise as digital data and slow the whole thing down.
Pick up your land line, dial the number 1 to clear the dial-tone and listen. If you hear noise (shhhhhhhhhh), it's time to request service. Ants will get in the phone lines and mess them up.

For a more direct approach, run the DSLReports tweak test. That will tell you if there's an OS setting that needs to be fixed. |
