How to create a pay per use hotspot?

I want to setup my own hotspot, which is simple enough, but I want to make it a pay per use service. I also want to host it all myself and not use a service like Boingo or similar ones. Payment should be easy enough through Paypal via cash or credit card. I can't find any documentation though on how to do it. Things I do find suggest going through a service provider and then tell you which one the reviewer used. That doesn't help. Anyone know how to do this? Please, no comments on what type of broadband connection I'm going to need, it obviously has to be fast. Once the everything is in place I'm going to initiate a test phase of 30-50 users with a ~50 Mbps down ~20 Mbps up connection on my end. From there I'll downgrade or upgrade based upon network activity.

GZ3 beat me to it, but yeah, I was about to recommend a WRT-54GL running DD-WRT with Chillispot enabled.

Using a third-party service like HotSpotSystem.com or WorldSpot.net in conjunction with Chillispot should get you up and running quickly. Otherwise, if you want to go at it alone, you are looking at setting up a web server for the user prompt page and a RADIUS server for account management.

If you want to go the easiest route, you are looking at an outlay of less than $100. If the business model takes off, then bankroll your cash to setup more router hardware, a content caching proxy, a standalone accounting system, etc.

Yeah, I've already got the hardware ready to go for the signal distribution, just got to setup the server for management.

Since you already have the WiFi hardware in place, you could instead consider deploying Chillispot or similar on a BSD or Linux box.
