Question
Connected to LAN but unable to use web ?? Netgear DG834G

Hello

Ok firstly I am with AOL broadband and use a Netgear DG834G modem/router. This router has never caused me any problems until Saturday at around 2PM when I was trying to set up a static IP address in order to forward my ports on bit comet so that I could reach higher download speeds. I have done this before in the past and have never experienced problems. However after doing that I can no longer open any page on the internet, not even the routers page - 192.168.0.1
However my connections page shows the LAN to be connected at 100.0Mbps but I just cant open any webpage as it just comes up with the error message Page Cannot Be Displayed . I have also tried ipconfig/all in cmd and here is the results:

I have pinged my router - 192.168.0.1 and I get 4 replies with 0%loss. As for when I try and ping www.google.com I get the message could not find host.
I have phoned both AOL and Netgear to no avail and none of them have managed to resolve the issue. They are able to see my router is online however they are stumped by how I cannot access any webpage nor even the routers page.

I have also tried system restore back to the time when my internet was fine and this has not helped either. I also tried The reset factory settings button on the router however not even this has managed to work. The CD that the router came with from AOL doesnt even help as when I put that in it says it cannot detect my router and asks me to check all the cables (Which I have done!!)

Basically I have no clue why my internet is not working. It shows to be connected however it wont load any pages. It doesn’t seem to detect my modem at all however but I don’t think this is the problem as when I plug a line into the router it says local area connection established - 100Mbps.
All the respective lights are on the router and shows it to be fine. It could possibly be down to me creating a static IP and then resetting my routers settings. I think this caused my router to lose all its settings or something. However I am unsure how I can get them back.

If anyone has any suggestions at all then please reply to this. I am desperate now and really need your help !!!
Many Thanks
Iain

Is your router capable of doing DNS?

If you set it to a DHCP address and do an ipconfig /all what DNS addresses does it give you?

I am unable to check that at the moment as I am on a computer at my work. When I click properties on LAN connection and go into TCP/IP I can edit the addresses however I like such as I.P, DNS, Default Gateway and Subnet Mask.

However if you are meaning going into my actual router settings then this is a no go as 192.168.0.1 wont load my router page. So I can change settings around in LAN connections but currentley not router it seems.

And can you give me an example of what sore of DHCP address to put into LAN connections ??

DHCP is dynamically given to you, you just change it from static to DHCP

Pretty much you do the opposite of what you did to make the address static

I cant really remember what to do though ? I set the properties to obtain IP address and DNS address automatically thinking that would reverse the steps that made it static in the first place but that didnt work ??
Change it from static to DHCP ? what exactly do you mean ?
Thanks, I appreciate the help
