I need to open a port for mysql. and i am unable to do that.
Actually the problem is i had a Firewall installed on my system i.e. "Norton Internet Securities". I have uninstalled it completely. Even windows firewall is stopped.
One interesting thing i notice is one of the port 39171 is open which i have opened way back when i was using norton firewal. in fact all the ports are open which where opened by norton. Rest every port is still blocked.
Please suggest what to do.. I am strugging with this from pas 2 days.
Thanks in advance. |

Did you forward the port on any hardware firewall you have (for example, on a router if you have one)? |

I did the same thing a while back. My first question is, do you want your SQL server to be accesible from the internet? Next is how is your network/internet configured (ex. Cable modem to router then to the computer with the SQL server)? If you use a router do you know how to access port forwarding and what port to forward? For my use it's port 3306, or you can use tcp view from Microsoft to see what port your SQL server is listening on. It's also a good simple way to see what connections your computer is using. You can get tcp view from here: TCPView for Windows
I'll be sure to help you as much as I can, and hopefully we can figure this out. Also, what are you using your SQL server for? |

Firstly thanx a lot for your time and concern... i m really frustated with this problem now...
Answer to EXreaction:
Yes i have added 3306 port for forwarding to my router's software.
Answer to GenericHelper:
I am tring to run MySQL server from my own machine. Both server and client are on my system itself. I am using a router of Following specification:
Manufacturer : Beetel
Model : 450 BX1
I was using a utility tool 'CurrPorts' to view the port details. And also used TCPView after your suggestion. Both say that MySQL server is listening to 3306.
Actually i m interested in doing freelancing projects. So i need MySQL for various purposes.
One point i want to make here. As i said both server and client are on my system itself would it still need to configure the router. Logically speaking in that case it means without an internet connection i cannot use MySQL. This is quite unacceptable to me. I strongly belive that there is nothing to do with router in this case.
Please HELP...!!!! thanx... |

You don't need to open ports if you will be using the client and server on the same machine. When you connect to the server just use localhost. |

Sometimes after uninstalling firewalls the winsockets can get jack up. Try this WinSock XP Fix download and review - fix XP internet connectivity from SnapFiles You have XP, right?
Also, make sure that the SPI firewall the router isn't blocking anonymous Internet connections (that might be the reason) and the port is forwarded to your computer's IP address. The computer needs a static IP address. Also check to see if UPaP is on. Might want to turn that off.
