It wasn't worth the hassle for me, so I removed Vista and installed XP. If all your systems are working properly, is it really a big deal if you have to enter your password? | What's most important is ability to connect at all, of coarse, but with auto connect, there was no having to choose network, then enter password, then wait. It cuts productivity over time. Also kind of anal about my systems in that I want them to function at their peak. Still have a Win98 box that hums.
Thanks for the perspective. |

Well, good for you for sticking it out. Have you tried uninstalling the NIC card and re-installing it?

Well, good for you for sticking it out. Have you tried uninstalling the NIC card and re-installing it? | One of the first things (trouble shots?) attempted. Now have the latest driver available from Intel's site:
Rest assured, once I find a fix, I'll post it here for the next guy.

I need the same fix for the same problem. Although, it may be coincidence, but I have just recently changed wireless settings on my router and removed all of the wireless networks I had saved. Thats when I found that I couldnt save any. If you fid a fix, please do post it. I will do the same. |

I fixed it for me at least. A system restore did the trick. It seems an update that happened on my machine around Dec 19 caused the problem. Restoring to prior to that worked. My connections are back. I was also having issues with updates and windows defender, so the restore fixed it all. The updates have since installed properly and Defender is available again. |

Stated that I'd post a fix for the next guy but a fix was never found that didn't require me to roll back my system like jashuacumbie did.
Fortunately, had a disk image backup of my system when this problem wasn't happening and installed it. Lost all of my data since the backup but fixing this annoying auto-connect problem was more important.
If anything, this was a lesson to make disk image backups. Also, one should use care in installing Open Office 3.0 over v. 2.4 because the issue came about after this "upgrade." Forgot to mention that.
Also, after posting this issue on multiple forums, received a most intriguing response from a chicagotech.net user. He/she suggested that I merge only a of portion (HKLM/Software/Microsoft/WLANSVC) of a registry backup I had.
Thanks to all who've responded. Nice to be a member of the forum. |
