How do I configure a Filezilla server on an ICS computer?

So I wanted to set up an FTP server on my desktop, figured I'd just use Filezilla because it seems pretty easy. The desktop has no WLAN card, so I have to share my laptop's wireless connection via ICS to get Internet access on the desktop.

I use a standard Linksys WRT54G2 router, and I'm pretty savvy in the ways of networking; but, the desktop is getting a 192.168.0.x address because of ICS, and I can only forward ports on the router of the 192.168.1.x type.

Any ideas as to how I can forward ports in the router? Or manually force ICS to set a 192.168.1.x IP address? Or maybe something else I'm just not thinking of? Wouldn't be surprised anyway

    Thanks!

You are doing NAT on top of NAT (the router does NAT) and then the ICS box is doing NAT. It might be doable (but very doubtful)

You cant force ICS to use a 192.168.1x number, its set by MS to use .2

I think you mean .0, not .2. As I said, it is 192.168.0.x

Anyway, thank you for an honest answer! I was kind of hoping that wasn't the case, but it was in the back of my head. You explained it very clearly, so thanks again

Would it solve your problems by putting the Filezilla server on the laptop and having it's accounts use directories on a shared drive/folder from the desktop? This way the internet can reach the ftp server on the laptop and your content is still on the desktop?

That's definitely an option jak, but I just wanted to refrain from doing that as network-based transfers experience such a slow data transfer rate and I'd be transferring gigabytes upon gigabytes.

I think I'm going to just invest in a WLAN card, as pretty soon I'll have to take my laptop with me to a few different places and the server will need to keep running when I'm not here.

    Thanks!
