Remember, when ICSing, make sure you set the sharing computer to share the DIALUP connection if you're using WinPoE or other PPP connections...

Bellsouth DSL
I've had mine for about three weeks now( from Bellsouth ) and being less than a mile from the switching station and new lines installed sometimes it downloads @ 999bps , average is about 650. Norton updates are esspecially quick ................................
and they're done. Could NEVER go back to dail up!!!!!!!!
You really enjoy it
Don't forget the firewall!!!!!!!!! I have a D-Link router and hub connecting four computer. Also run Zone Alarm to protect your uploads and monitor all your activities. Run Leak Test from
GRC.com and you'll how unexposed your computer is.

1.5mb bandwidth DSL = $65/month
3.0mb max bandwidth CABLE(I'm at 2.6mb every day) = $35/month
Yeah, yeah...the DSL people say that cable will slow down when more and more people use it...I've been using it for 2 years now and I have yet to see that happen.
I guess it all depends on how the service is in your area...

I hear ya surreal

We just got cable a month or so ago and its horrible
I sometimes get 450 BYTES per sec downloads grrrr
Sometimes if I reset the modem I get better speeds but within an hour.. maybe more it goes back to nothing
need to call tech support figure out what's going on
Glad to hear you got on the DSL bandwagon
There maybe some lumps and bumps at the beginning, but hopefully things will smooth out
Btw you'll have to put the static IP in manually,it won't pick it up by itself

nice to see a fellow diver martoch, yea i wish i could get cable, but they still havent released it and im not gonna wait any longer, aol has been getting worse and worse, as for static ip, i get one for free, what kind of precautions should i set up if i have this setup when it gets here:
dsl->linksys router->client 1 static ip (server)
client 2 dhcp
client 3 dhcp
do you see any problems with a setup like this for web hosting?http://gorillasmashserver.com {Gorilla:Smash:Server}

SMPS might have created trouble. Check CPU fan too. When overheating occurs, processor disconnects itself from board.
