    Internet browsing just stops

Hello, wonder if anyone can help. I think this seems to be a common problem but no-one seems to have an answer.

When I am using the internet, sometimes it just stops and won't allow you to open new pages. Sometimes it happens within 5mins and sometimes after an hour. The weird part is that it still allows msn to run. If you restart the computer it works again.

I have Windows Vista Service Pack 1, IE7, I have updated these but no change.
I'm using AVG 8.00 and ZoneAlarm 8.00. I have also got malwarebytes, all report no problems.

    Things that I have tried.

Changed power options to performance, read somewhere this helped someone!
    Reset Internet Explorer Settings
The modem seems to ping ok.
I tried to use Safari, same problem.

    Anyone got any ideas??

Ok, GZ, it's all you; I forgot why we were asking all these questions!! ROFL

I guess you could check your ethernet cable and make sure it's good.
Got filters on your phone lines?

During the time that internet pages won't open in IE, are you able to ping any sites? Next time your internet connection seems to have dropped, open a command prompt and type ping www.google.com (Start - run, type cmd and hit enter to open a command prompt) Also, try visiting a site by the IP address just in case you're having some sort of DNS issue. Put http://174.132.108.164/ in the address bar (TechIMO's public IP address).

I have filters on my phone, guessing they are working, same as the ethernet cable. Never really considered these as they never move to get damaged and the internet works when the computer is restarted.

At the moment everything seems fine, got a windows update and haven't had a problem since.

If I have any problems I'll try what Martoch has said.

    Thanks for all the help.

Hello, back again with the same problem.

It worked for a few days but I wasn't using the computer that much.

Once again, the only way to get the internet to work again is to restart the computer. I have upgraded to IE8, this has made no change.

I tried what murtoch said and this didn't work.

Not sure what else it could be, would it be worth changing the filter?
