Gotcha. - Sorry - didn't mean to step on anybody's feet.
I just wasn't expecting that "i want to become a small ISP" remark.

So, you now want them to be able to connect to your computer. This is possible, and you would need to create a VPN tunnel for them to access data, the other alternative (that I can work out from your messages) would be to set up a RemoteDesktop (RD) or VNC connection through to the computer.
Whichever way, you would need to give them credentials for an account on your computer. Also, if you go with RD or VNC, this means that only one of you can work on the computer at any given time. Quote:

Internet service provider - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
You either aren't selling them internet, in which case you are not and ISP; or you are.
Just for clarification:
If they are connecting to your network with a VPN, and are then trying to browse the 'net through that connection, then they will have an even slower connection than they already do - so slow that some internet messaging applications (Skype, et cetera) will time out and not connect.... Quote:

Just as well I'm in a good mood today... |

Basically, xsystem has a cheap assed friend who doesn't want to spend $10/month for dial-up, so he wants to run a dial-up server off his PC for his freeloader friend.
In all likelihood, your ISP prohibits this anyway. |

Even so, surely this would still be slower than the "friend" already has...
Freebies FTW though... |

It is possible, i don't know if there is a 3rd party software that can do remote access server but what i know is if you install a windows 2000 advanced server on your computer that has a modem on it then configure the RAS (that means, creating a user then allow them to connect etc...) you can search in the internet how to configure RAS on windows 2000 advanced server. |

Xsystem
You really want him to dial into your router, not your computer. You are just saying your computer because you perceive the Internet as coming through your computer. Using your computer as a conduit would be like setting up a BBS.
Are you in the US? That type of modem will not be cheap overseas.

Going back to the OP, they want to set it up for someone else to connect to his network to browse the internet (et cetera) at a faster rate than they get through the dial-up.
The fact that this other user only has a dial-up connection will be the limiting factor in the overall link, will mean that (no matter how fast the rest is) it will still be slow.
Add in that they will effectively be adding an additional 'hop' to the internet means that the perceived speed will actually decrease..... |
