    Dell Dimension 3000; no internet

This is a weird one. I am connected to the network, but the internet won't work. We have a Dimension 2400 hooked to the same router and the internet works fine. The modem is a motorola SB501 SURFBoard cable modem, and the router is a linksys etherfast with four ports. Please help!

What does an ipconfig show? Do you have a link light on the network card for the machine in question? Does the network card show up functional in the device manager?

Can you ping websites? Is the computer set to DCHP or do you have it set up with a static address?

    We need more information

Like I said, the network card works, because I have access to the network, but not the internet. I'm using DCHP.

    Start-run-cmd.....and hit enter

You could be firewalled........check your firewall settings.

Also.........open up explorer..........go to tools.........internet options........connections........lan settings..........check to see that automatically detect settings is selected.

Okay, so I can pick up wireless internet, so that gave me an idea. I just used USB instead of the Ethernet port. It worked fine.
