problem with wired LAN

hi .. i have an internet connection which is configured with a linksys WRT54G router... I have a desktop connected via a wired connection and a laptop through wireless... it was working fine till yesterday when the wired connection just stopped working... i tried changing the cable but still no luck.. today i connected the wired connection directly to my laptop and it worked.. i tried the other OS i have in my desktop and dint work there either... so i guess the problem is with the desktop PC's LAN port.. please correct me if i m wrong... my motherboard is hardly two months old ... the problem i get is the internet icon says limited or no connectivity and that it cant obtain an ip address of its own.. i assigned manually too but still internet does not work,,, pls help

Go into the device manager and click on the network card. What does the status of the network card report?

it says device is working properly... i have now installed an ethernet card and internet works just fine...

update: i wanted to try something and reconnected it to the integrated ethernet port and now internet works.... i dint do anything for it to start working ... totally lost here... anyway as long as it works i am fine with it.. does anyone have an idea of wat could have gone wrong? is it possible that my router was the culprit...

It's possible, but it woudn't be the first time I've seen onboard nics act flakey.
