XP vista network problems

Hi

I am having trouble setting my home network for a xp (SP3) and a vista (Home) machine. Yes I have done my hw for 3 hrs searching the internet and the forums. This is the extensive list of the things already done, checked twice.

1. All firewalls off (windows, third party and router.)
2. Both machines on same workgroup "HOME"
2. XP Machine has TTLD installed
3. XP sharing options enabled
4. Vista sharing options enabled (From sharing center, disabled the password option)
5. Added "Everyone on the folder sharing options"

Now the things I can do:

1. Ping from vista <-> xp and vise versa
2. Access the files on xp from the vista machine (through explorer, by typing the ip)
3. I can "see" the vista sharing folders, but have no permission

Things I can't do:
1. I can't access vista folders in any way though the xp machine
2. vista cannot see the xp sharing folders.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What happens if you try to access the hidden C share? Are you just going to run and typing \\computername\sharename or are you actually trying to map a drive out.

\\computername\c$ or \\ipaddress\c$

Can you get to that? Its shared by default, if you cant get to it most likely some sort of firewall is blocking it. Disable everything (dont just turn off the firewall portion of some software suite)
