Public network to Private on Windows 7

Hey guys, so basically I have a laptop connected to a wireless network, and connected via normal network cable straight to an xbox 360.

The problem is that I cannot get my laptop and the xbox 360 to "talk". When I was using vista, I used to be able to just click on the network and change it from public to private, but at the moment windows 7 won't let me do this. This means my xbox can't connect through my pc to xbox live, and it also means that I can't watch House on my tv from my hard drive. Bad times.

My computer identifies the network as public, and can't come up with any solutions. I tried setting a static IP on my xbox and setting it to automatic, but neither is any use. When an IP isn't set, it complains that it isn't getting one set, and one I set a static IP it says it can't connect with a static IP.

My computers IP is 192.168.1.10, and my consoles is set to 192.168.1.12. I set my consoles gateway to 192.168.1.10 so it would look to my computer, and I set the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0.

In vista I could just change the network, but in Windows 7 I can't.

    Any Suggestions?

    Cheers

    Andy

If you are sharing out the wireless network from the laptop to the 360 you will need to enabled ICS on the laptop and set the xbox360 to DHCP

Step by step Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) setup in Vista | Windows Reference

The vista instructions should be the same as windows 7

I've set up ICS on my computer, but I don't know what you mean when you say set the xbox 360 to DHCP. The two now share an internet connection, but my computer still identifies the network as "Unidentified Network", and listed it as a public network. The public network part isn't clickable, unlike my other network which has security and so I can list as private.

I found this which has sorted the problem though -

dimeby8 : Change ‘Unidentified network’ from Public to Work in Windows 7
