| AT&T High Speed Internet WIFI Issue
Just got AT&T high speed internet. I installed it, it works great, connected on ethernet but wireless doesn't work. I can connect to the wifi network, but pages don't load. Im on a mac, OSX 10.5 if that matters. The wireless light is lit up, its clearly functioning, just not sure what is a little off. Nothing connects btw...other computers (macs), iphone, etc.
I was looking through the network settings in system preferences and it says connected but "airport has a self assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet."
Im assuming that has something to do with it but no idea what that means really, anyone know how to fix this?
thanks

thanks | Have you entered the security code for the WIFI network your on? Most of the time it's printed on the bottom of the modem/router you got from ATT. Once you enter in the security code you should have full access to the web. |

Hi, I haven't done much with Macs before - especially with regards to WLAN setup...
However, I'm presuming that the message about getting a "self assigned" IP address would be the same sort of thing as a 169.X.Y.Z address in Windohs, which is flagged as with a "limited or no connectivity" bubble...
As such, it means that it can't communicate with the DHCP server (which I'm guessing is going to be your 'router') and therefore creates a 'default' IP address...
As I'm on my BlackBerry, I can't try throwing any Google-fu at a certain internet search engine that has six letters, and as I've only really dealt with M$ OSs connecting with a WLAN, I'm a little stuck....although, as your getting a 'connected' message it may not be an issue with the wi-fi security as such...........
Personally, as I've got a better knowledge with M$, I would bring a Windohs machine into the WLAN environment to see what is happening... Having said that, I'm thinking that it could be sonething like the wireless is being segregated from the LAN, and that could be the reason that the wireless isn't getting DHCP - but you could, theoretically, test that by setting the machine with the issue to use a static/manual IP address.....
Let us know how you get on - or if you have any further info.......

You may want to double check the security. In windows i can put in a WEP PW even if its wrong my comp acts like its connecting then tells me limited or no connectivity. It does this even though the wireless says its connected but doesnt give acess because of an incorrect WEP. |

if you are using window and your page is not able to load try to reconfigure your ip address ,try to use default ip if this is not supportive ,enter the ip address, subnet and gateway to configure.sometimes mac is not support the wireless connectivity but windows sometimes never give large bug and solve easily.try to use some network montioring or diagnotic tool to solve your problems. |
