    Question WAN settings

im setting my router up, and i was wondering should i change the WAN setting to static ip instead of dynamic ip? i have a static ip address on my pc now, but do i have to make it static on my router?

my router is a dlink di-524.

the setting it is on now is dynamic.

Unless your isp issued you a static ip, leave it dynamic.

Even if you've been issued a static WAN IP by your ISP, I would still leave the WAN setting as Dynamic....

It is the same as if you set up a DHCP reservation, I would still leave the client set to use DHCP (rather than give it a matching Static IP) for it...
I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...
Whenever someone says "You can't miss it", I invariably do...

Is it really necessary to confuse the guy with this. Makes no sense whatsoever. What do you think the purpose of a static ip is?
