Can I connect Wireless router (with Ethernet input connection) to ADSL Connection ?

    Hello,

I have ADSL router (provided by my telephone company, BSNL) with input connection as a phone line and two outputs a USB and Ethernet Cable port which I connect it to my Laptop and Desktop.

But I want make wireless connection so that I can roam with my laptop anywhere in my house and have Internet.

In market there are two types of wireless router available
    1) ADSL
    2) Normal Cable Router (with RJ45 Ethernet connection as input)

My concern is that can connect Normal Cable wireless Router to my existing ADSL router through Ethernet cable and then connect all my computers to that Normal Cable wireless Router
I think benefit will be If in case I switch my ISP to local dealer who provides RJ45 Ethernet Cable as input line , I still can use my Normal Cable wireless Router and share internet connection with all my computers.

    Please discuss,

    Thanks

    Venkat

    Hi Venkat,

    Welcome to TechIMO.

Yes, you can connect a normal wireless router, not an ADSL router, to your existing router to share your internet connection among several computers.

To be more specific I am now having UTSTARCOM UT300R2U router provided by my Telephone company.

Please tell me does this router supports pass on the internet to other wireless router (a cable one) and then pass on the internet to computers.

    Thanks

    Venkat

The best way to get an answer to this question is by asking other users of your ISP. Do they have a forum?

Just looking over the user manual I'd say there shouldn't be too much of an issue. The only sticking point I see is that modem/router uses DHCP so you'll likely have to turn off the DHCP server on one or the other, probably the secondary router. Then you connect an ethernet cable from the LAN port of the UTSTARCOM to a numbered LAN port of the second router. Do not use the Internet/WAN port on the second router!
