HP9040mfp - Scan to network folder problem
Hi all,
I recently bought a used HP 9040mfp all-in-one.
This is a commercial grade printer/scanner/fax,etc.
Does 11x17 printing and scanning.
The problem I am having is getting this thing to scan to a shared network folder.
We have a small network with just workstations.
No servers at this time.
We mainly share folders and printers.
I've been slowly weeding out printers that don't have network connectivity.
I have setup a shared folder on a computer and have tested access with other work stations. I checked the box to allow other to modify the files which also tests out OK.
The problem I am having is when I go in and setup the HP 9040 to scan to a network folder and try to test the connection, it always gives me an error saying "Unable to reach '\\workstation\scanfolder'."
My knowledge is limited to fairly simple networking.
I'm thinking there was be some setting in the printer that I am missing or it could be a router setting.
I'm also wondering if I should use some other protocol like IPX/SPX. I am not familiar with all the setting I would need to try it though.
I've done some searching and it appears others have had the same issues, but I never see what the solution was.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich

I didn't see anything about mapping a network drive.
For example, my backup programs, backup to another computer, on my home network, but it can't do it unless the drive is mapped.Hard Sayin Not Knowin

I've got mapped drives, but the printer is not looking for a drive letter.
It is looking for a network share name.
I tried entering:
\\Rich\scanfolder\
and
\\10.0.0.56\scanfolder\
and neither worked.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
Any comments are welcome and will hopefully lead to the solution.

My backup program looks for a shared folder also, (but the drive has to be mapped for it to find it.)
Did you try mapping it?Hard Sayin Not Knowin

The hard drive in the printer is not accessible except through the HTTP built in web menu.
There is no way that I know of to map to it.
You can't map a drive to a printer.
Any other ideas?

Are the printer drivers installed on all machines? File and Print sharing enabled on all machines..

Also for grins - try enabling the protocal NWLink NetBIOS to see if that helps.Imagine a world where dogs took bad owners to the pound...
