Question Networking PowerDVD 11 and iPhone

I have 2 computers 1 main rig and a HTPC with PowerDVD 11. I have 2 networks 1 attached to an Edimax 4 way Router and a wireless network provided by a usb dongle.

I'm trying to get my iPhone to connect with PowerDVD11 so i can use it as a remote control. iPhone connects with no problems to the Wireless network, currently set to ad-hoc, but doesn't see the PowerDVD server.

    What am i missing?

    Thanks in advance.

The computer with the PowerDVD software on has 2 IP's 192.168.2.101 for the connection to the router and 194.254.165.73 for the wireless connection. The iPhone's Ip is 169.254.150.201.

The ip address on the phone is an APIA address which means it can not contact a DHCP server. So it might look like its connected to whatever wireless network you have, but its not pulling an ip address from it. You will not be able to go to any network resources while it has that 169.x.x.x address.

Can you please describe your network or try to draw picture, it doesnt have to be pretty.

You can set your iphone up with a static address on the same ip network/subnet as your desktop wireless card. Once you do that you should be able to talk to your computer.

Chose Static IP in the connection options on my iPhone and gave it the IP of 169.254.165.74 and the subnet mask of 255.255.0.0, Router and DNS IP's of 192.168.2.1 and the remote still doesn't talk to the server. Am i using the right numbers?

Whatever address is on the wireless card on the pc needs to be the same network/subnet as the iphone so they can communicate.

So if the wireless card on your powerdvd has the 192.168.2.101, then the iphone needs to have an ip address of 192.168.2.x/24 (x being a different address than .101 and a subnet of 255.255.255.0)

    Make sense?

Yes makes sense as that is what i did.

The Wireless IP is 169.254.165.73 with subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 so i entered 169.254.165.74 and 255.255.0.0 into the iPhone and it still wouldn't connect.

or does it need to end in 24 as in your example?

Does the iPhone say you are connected to the ad hoc wireless network? Can you post your ipconfig /all from the machine that has the wireless card in it? Does it have a firewall enabled?

APIPA address dont need to be statically assigned the machine gives itself the address, machines on the same network with APIPA addresses can communicate with each other.

It says it's connected to the network, in this case i named it "Remote Control"

There is also another network i can connect to called "69322" that wasn't there before.

Yes it has a firewall, Agnitum Outpost Security Suite.

Ad hoc mode is something really that is used only temporarily. Not a lot of people use it in general, if this is gonna be something you are going to use often and permant I suggest looking at getting a wireless router or an access point.

I should probably mention the OS is XP SP 3.

Uninstalled windows driver for the device and Installed the latest Ralink drivers as suggested in the link above.

Then created a new network called remote, HTPC says it's connected, iPhone says it is connected but they still won't talk to each other.

    Security is currently off.

Also after a restart with the wirless adaptor enabled it kills the network connection to my other PC..

    More info.

In the advance setting if i take it off the ad hoc network and change it to access point, it shows a connection called iPhone but it has a red cross on it and doesn't show up in the choice of wireless networks.
