Static IP & Gigabit Switch Question

Ok, I have two questions. First let me say that I have a Linksys WRT120N router. To it I have my motorola cable modem connected to the WAN port, and to each of the 4 LAN ports I have a Windows 7 laptop, Win 7 Desktop, Apple TV 2, and a PS3 connected.

I would like to set a static ip for each of the devices. Sometimes my Apple TV will change from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.7, and I would like it to always be the same. How do I go about achieving this? Would someone be able to provide fairly detailed instructions? I have tried disabling DHCP and setting the static ip in the software, but I have been unable to make this work properly for Apple TV as well as my PCs.

Secondly, I would like to get a gigabit switch. This one here. Amazon.com: TRENDnet 5-Port Unmanaged Gigabit GREENnet Switch (5 x 10/100/1000Mbps Auto-Negotiation, Auto-MDIX Gigabit Ethernet Ports) TEG-S50g (Black Metal): Electronics

My question is concerning my laptop and desktop. So long as I have both the laptop and desktop connected to the gigabit switch instead of the 10/100 router, and the switch connected to a LAN port on the router, both the laptop and desktop will have internet access and be able to transfer at gigabit speeds. Is this correct?

Thanks for any and all of your help

Since you are using a linksys to set a static address:

192.168.1.x. (x is whatever you want it to be up to .254 and dont use 1!)
    Subnet will be 255.255.255.0
GAteway 192.168.1.1 (or whatever you have your router set to)
Dns: whatever your ISP uses or you can use googles 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4

All machines will talk to each other if they are plugged into the router
