Laptop Does not connect to Wireless

I use windows XP. I recently had to have a new router installed. Old one seems to have died or summit. The standalone computer which has been set up with a password connects easily and works. Another standalone in another room asked for my password- connected and works as well.
My laptop which previously worked very well with the old router , identifies that there s a network, but just fails to connect even after entering the correct password. Any help advice and suggestions most welcome.

What wireless network card do you have? What router do you have? Are you using the windows xp wireless manger or the network card manager to connect to the wireless network?

The Router is a TP - Link. I have no idea what wireless card is being used. It is a Toshiba laptop. The problem seems to be identifying the network key. I enter the exact key that I have set up on my standalone but it does not seem to recognise the key. No error message or anyhing- it justs asks for the network key and confirmation again and again after I try to connect.
I believe my network is set up using Windows.

By the way going on other posts in this forum I have uninstalled the network connection on the laptop and tried again- no luck- the same thing happens.

Are there options in the router or network card software to select mixed mode encryption? You may have to experiment with getting the right type of encryption settings to match that of what the network card is capable of.
