Trouble adding a switch to existing wireless router

    Hey guys,

Basically all I'm trying to do it add a 16 port wired switch (D-Link DSS-16+) to an existing wireless router (Netgear WGR614v10).

The problem is that when we connect the router to the switch (using straight-thru), I get a solid connection light (good), but the computer connected to the switch doesn't get internet access.

My first thought is that computers behind the switch aren't getting the right IP info from the DHCP server on the router. But manually setting the computer to have a valid IP (ex: 192.168.1.115) and the correct router gateway IP (192.168.1.1) doesn't work either.

And I'm stumped. I thought switches were just plug in and go.

So any help would be really great!!

Well the switch you have does Auto-MDI/MDI-X support so the straight through cable is perfectly fine. When you manually set the ip address what did you put as a DNS address?

I assume when you plug the computer in to get a DHCP address it just gets an APIPA address? What os is this machine running?

Well let me clarify some stuff after messing with it all day:

We discovered most of the cables were wired wrong so we redid that and that resolved all issues except one.

The other thing is that only ethernet credit card machines (omni 3750) are connected to the switch.

All five of those are working. The sixth terminal is an omni vx5740. It has the correct ip settings for everything, but it will not work. We can't ping the machine, and the machine can ping the router. But the sstrange thing is that the terminal works fine when its connected directly to the router.

    So yeah...no idea.

The port that the sixth machine is plugged into on the switch, do other machines work on that port? Have you tried switching cables around?
