    Linksys E Series Router Ranges

I'm replacing my WRT160N router. I've looked at the tech data for the various models in the Linksys E series (E1200, E1500, E2500, E3200, E4200) and have not been able to find range comparison data for them. I'd just like to know if they are all about the same. Or when you get more capability moving to the higher end products does that provide you with better or worse effective coverage radius. Anyone have that info, or can point me where to look?

    Thanks.

I have one of everything except the E2500. There is a lot more functionality as you move up the line. I have had my E4200 about 2 months now and it's great. If you want to replace your WRT160N ( I have one in my network ) I would go with the E1500 as a like comparison. But, if you want an awesome, dual band router with an extra USB port ( I attached 1TB of Seagate Free Agent storage ) buy the E4200. Best on the market and I test products for a lot of companies.

Thanks for the reply. Yes. I see the greatly increasing functionality moving up the line and find that attractive. I just had the bad experience going from my Linksys G router to the WRT160N a few years ago with an immediate loss of range that caused me to continue to use the G for some of my devices. So, functionality is important, but the range over which I can achieve that functionality is also. That's why I'd really like to know, for example, if the increased functionality of the E4200 comes at the expense of range compared to the E1500, or did Linksys put more into the E4200 so the range is better along with the increased functionality, or are the ranges effectively the same and the difference in entirely the increased functionality.

    Thanks again.

Range is much better. I have the E4200 in the rear window of my RV about 300' away. With my iPhone4 I can get on either router. ( I have the network in the RV and the network in the house bridged together) So in my experience the range is much better. The two channel arrangement using the 5 band is awesome. I don't think you can go wrong. I sell the big CISCO gear for a living and I know the home products too. This new E Series is pretty good.

Thanks, but that really doesn't deal with my question. Does anyone else know how the range of the various E Series routers compare with each other?

    Zonker,

If the Quick specs don't give you the data you are seeking I don't don't where you will find a chart showing all models side by side with range and functionality differences. The new Cisco Connect software that comes with all the E series is identical and dual band + USB port on the higher end ARE the differences.

My experience goes back to the old 54G series and the N functionality is better for range and there are new security products on the higher end E series.

Sorry I couldn't help any more. Cisco puts a ton of stuff on the web so a little search engine work may give you the results you are seeking.
