Cable internet unstable
Hey guys, I have Time Warner Cable Wideband. I pay for the 30/5MB service. Currently my service has been fluctuating. During download tests my test will freeze and then throttle sometimes to 300mb a sec and then after the test show 13Mb a second or less usually. I've even had problems watching youtube videos. Anyways I was wondering if anyone could make sense of this information and see if anything is wrong. Thanks in advance. Bobby

Hi Bobby,
What has your cable provider tried already? I assume you've got the usual things checked out:
1. Cable modem straight off the first junction in the house,
2. Good quality splitter and cable,
3. Cable not near any power wiring, etc.

What speeds does this site say you have:
Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

I have a tech coming out today.. surprisingly they had an availability for next day service! Now, that's service! Ill post my numbers after and what he did. Thanks for your help. Oh here is my speed test.. pretty normal for me.. I believe I am going to suggest we move the modem out to the closest on my porch where all of the cable comes to my apartment. Fortunately I have 2 lines running into my apartment and then it is tee'd off from there. I believe we can arrange it so that the modem has its own dedicated line without being on a splitter.

Upload is always near 5Mbs but my download freezes and throttles during the speed test.. at the end of the test the bar showed I was downloading over 30Mbs but when the test was completed I got 15Mb sec.

Well, I have to say Time Warner has really impressed me! I called last night and they had a tech to my house today at 11:30am. The tech determined my connection was suffering from too high of an upload strength at 54. He said they would have one of their Maintenance guys come and look at it within the next two days. Roughly 2 hours later I got a knock on the door and he said everything is fixed. I checked for any problems with my connection and could not locate any. He left me his personal phone number and told me to call anytime if I have problems in the future! New stats
