    Question college bandwidth issues

im am trying to play onlive at college but i keep getting a low bandwidth error. i have found thou other forums (How bad is OnLive towards your bandwidth? | Video Game Online Forums & Community | Game Platform Discussions for Video Games - GameTrailers.com) only uses 640KB/s and i can play the game fine during breaks and during on campus football games. so i know its not a problem with the schools network firewalls, or mine. Its a problem with the amount of people on the network using up all the bandwidth. Does anyone know how i can get/reserve/use more of the bandwidth so that i can play online at school?

Lets think about this logically, if there was a way for one user to do this then they'd all be able to and you'd still face the same issues. Network admins set bandwidth controls to level traffic just for this reason. Imagine trying to upload/download large files that are needed for school projects if everyone on your network was sucking up all the bandwidth with gaming/torrents ect.

Your only real option is doing just what you are doing. Playing during off peak times when everyone else is off the network.

I'm going to disagree with the others. You can buy your own account with an Internet service provider and pay for all the dedicated bandwidth you want.

Well, the ISP will still share your connection with anyone else that is on the same link...but yeah, that's about as good as it is likely to get...
I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...

All depends if the ISP has the ability to provide internet access in the dorms.

What about Wireless Tethering? (assuming you can get with a plan with unlimited data obviously, something like Virgin Mobile on Sprints network, but its a possible option beyond regular ISP's?)

Cell phone tethering still has some bandwidth issues with the constant stream of data required for gaming. Lag will be a huge issue with it and depending on what your signal is like in your building, if the dorm is pure concrete/stone pretty much you arent gonna get much with service.
