My laptop won't connect to my wireless internet
I have a toshiba satellite laptop that I got in 2009. The motherboard crashed a year ago and I just got it fixed a few days ago. For some reason I can't get it to connect to the router in my house. I am typing in the correct password for sure. We have a little netbook that connects to the router just fine and the desktop that is connected to the modem works as well. My laptop will connect to other wireless networks like at Starbucks etc. When I try to connect to my network it says it's connected, but won't give me any connectivity. It just keeps saying I am connected then keeps disconnecting and re-connecting. What should I try to fix it?

What OS are you running?
Do you have the latest drivers installed?
What wireless router are you connecting to?
What kind of encryption are you using to secure your wireless connection?
What wireless network card do you have?

I am running Windows Vista. I don't know about the drivers. It's a netgear n300 router. I don't know about the encryption or what kind of wireless network card I have.

The first thing I'd do is go the laptop mfg's website and update your drivers, especially your internet related drivers.
Also, most laptops have a physical switch to turn wireless on and off. You may want to download a manual too, just to check the obvious stuff.
Also, try running a cable from the router to the laptop directly and see in that works.Obama doesn't need an "enemies list"... He sees half the country as his enemy.

So basically, the Toshiba works on other networks using wireless? Web access and no loss of connectivity? You say the laptop was broken for nearly a year, right? Have you replaced the netgear or do you think its possible someone changed the encryption in that time? It might be worth going to 'Manage Wireless Networks' in your control panel (in network and sharing center) Remove reference to your network then try searching and connecting to the wireless again.
Another thing - you said you feel it's connecting and then disconnecting? Only on this network? I guess you were still getting no web access. Was it the wireless icon at the bottom right of your screen that gave you this feeling? Was it showing a red cross when disconnected? Or was it saying something like local only or limited activity?
Lastly - have you installed any software from your ISP at all?

Try a direct cable connection from the router to the back of the laptop and see how that works.

Wow, that's a lot of information to process, but it will all be put to good use. Thanks a ton. I usually preferred NVIDIA cards in the past as well. My bias was less educated, naturally, but I...
