    windows 7 network problem

I have a mixed bag of computers, printers and a NAS hooked up to a simple network.
(both macs and pc's, windows xp and win7, even one virtual computer still running windows98!)
The network has no router and is not hooked up to the internet.
All IP addresses are fixed and assigned manually.
Everything works just fine with the exception of just one desktop computer running Windows 7 Home Premium. One day it will work just fine, another day it does not want to recognize the network. Even when it doesnt recognize the network i can still ping the other devices on the network from it. Even more, on that computer I have installed virtual box with windows xp installed on it. From that virtual xp computer everything works just fine.
Hence my thinking it may have something to do with windows 7 itself.
    Any ideas anyone?

Do you see any errors in the event log? Do you have the latest drivers installed?

What network card do you have?

You were right, I keep forgetting about those logs. There was a name conflict with one of the other computers on the network, a laptop that is sometimes on and sometimes off, hence the intermittent nature of the problem.

Thanks for setting me straight once more!

Odd, windows usually pops up and notifies you that there is a duplicate name on the network.

Glad you got it sorted out! When in doubt check out the logs!

If you actually read the thread, he solved the issue by going into the event viewer and seeing a duplicate name on network error.
