looking for a good vpn service
I am running windows 7,xp, and linux mint 11.
I dont know a whole lot about vpn's as i recently learned of them.
I am definetly going to subscribe to a service.
Question is which one.
I do not like that hide my ass stores logs for up to two years.
I want a service that I can switch from the UK, USA, Sweeden, Switzerland, and The Netherlands whenever I want.
Of course I want the best speed I can get as I normally get about 20 or more mbps download on speedtest.net, though I know that I will loose speed from this.
I want the best privacy policy with minimal log storage.
I want this to work well with torrents as I suspect my isp (comcast) to be throttling them.
What vpn service do you reccomend?
thanks
jared

I have a feeling you don't understand VPN.... If you traveled to all of the places you mentioned - a VPN would help you to call home and access your home computer or a computer at your office.

well i am not trying to travel to all those countries.
what i want is the ability to choose a server in anyone of those coutries as i please.
i understand vpn's can be set up for home or work purposes
but i also understand that you can subscribe to a vpn for the sake of privacy and it is generally much more secure than a proxy

The person that owns the server must add a user account or give you user account signin info to grant you access to the data on the server...
Your link basically does that and probably comes with all the software you need.
You might want to google-> Proxy ServerImagine a world where dogs took bad owners to the pound...

I've used Hotspot Shield many times. It's meant mainly for WIFI hotspots though, not torrents. And Comcast publicly stated that they don't throttle torrents any more.

I'm into Hotspot Shield for my Windows for about a year now and though they are really good I found it annoying at times due to its lots of ads. Well, maybe that's pay for us not actually upgrading to a pro one but all in all they have great advantage over others.

sweet man thanks for the link
and as far as hotspotshield goes, i have messed with it a bit on my xp setup and haven't even tried it on my linux (this is what i primarily surf the web with)
it works well but it just doesn't do what i want it to do.
as far as comcast and throttling.
the other day i would start utorrent and my downloads would hit 2+mbps and then they would drop down to less than 50kbps and hold steady there. i would then restart utorrent and it would do the same every time i restarted it would jump high at the begining then drop really low and hold down there. even if they are not throttling now and you are probable right they are the only ones stopping themselves they could start back up as they please.
and of course torrents aren't the only reason i want a vpn
this site offers a three hour free trial
hideipvpn.com
i made quite the idiot newb mistake in setting up a pptp vpn and didnt get it working
i emailed them and they gave me a 24hr free trial
i really like it alot except it just doesn't have all the countries to choose from that i like
on speedtest.net i normally get between 20-25mbps and when using a NL vpn i got nearly 8
i could dl torrents at about 1-1.5mbps give or take
i am very satisified with that
i would go with this one if their privacy policy wasn't so vague and they had more contries to select from.
suggestions anyone of a vpn to meet what i am looking for?Last edited by jared8783; November 21st, 2011 at 06:15 AM.

Look at Network Connect but Steve Jones has already pointed out some very salient data. A VPN is basically a secure tunnel through your ISP's connection like to your company's' mail server. There is a client on that end as well. It seems like you have found some products you need but a pure VPN is usually for remote workers connecting securely back to corporate HQ. Don't know if I have helped you,,,Check the Cisco homepage and search for VPN products.

nope i definetly want a vpn
NOT A PROXY
vpn's can be similar to a proxy depending on how you use them
and they are FAR more secure
i went and got a decent one
purevpn.com
i got sixteen different countries to choose from
everything is encrypted
check out purevpn.com or hidemyass's site if you guys want more info on how vpn's can be used to surf anonymously and securely
and yeah i already had utorrent taken care of thanks for the tip though
with hideipvpn free trial that i had i usually got .75-1.5mbps on torrent going through an amsterdam server
idk what it is gonna be with purevpn as i have yet to test it but it gets much better results on speedtest.net ranging from 8-22mbps.
i wouldnt be surprised if i can torrent on the amsterdam server

i am all ears if anyone has any suggestions
otherwise i am pretty satisified with my current vpn service

HMA VPN or Strong VPN. They are both reliable and cheap. If you are planning to use the VPN in China, then I would recommend u go with Strong VPN since they have more VPN servers there. Both keep logs though.

The site is still hosed for me. In other news, it's still 78° here. It's supposed to hit 100° tomorrow.
