    Connecing 2 routers

I have my router in the basement connected to my cable modem. The wifi signal can reach to the main floor ok but not so good on second floor. I have a hard wire run from the router in basement to the 2nd floor which is connected to a hub where i run a wire to my mac and one to my ps3. To get a strong signal on the second floor, i wanted to connect another wireless router through my hub so that a wifi signal will be transmitted from there. My goal is to have a wireless signal coming from the basement as well as the second floor -giving a strong wifi signal throughout the house. Is this possible?

    Hi Prpredators,

    Welcome to TechIMO.

You can use a wireless extender for that purpose. Another idea is a powerline network adapter, which would allow you to put network ports around the house.

thanks for the info. seems to me that te power line route would create the strongest signal, no? Also,i guess my idea of 2 routers doesn't work?
    Thanks for the quick response.

If you are just plugged the second router into a hub, on the second router you will want to disable the DHCP server, change the ip address of the router to something like 192.168.1.2 (whatever is open) and plug into one of the LAN ports (not the WAN port)

You will also want to figure out what wireless channel you are using on router one (802.11bg uses 1,6,11) On the second router you will want to make sure its not the same and router one. Of course this all depends on what wireless standard you are using

What is the model number of the second router?

So pretty much what you will want to do is take the second router and plug in the power. Do not plug it into the hub. Then plug a machine into one of the lan ports on the router. Log into the web interface of the router and setup everything I told you to do

    1. Change the ip of the router
    2. Turn off DHCP
    3. Configure the wireless SSID/encryption

Then once that is all done plug it into the hub
