Blocking/allowing specific sites for kids on computer
Ok so this computer is to be used by both kids and adults.
What I want to do is set up two accounts on the computer.
One for the adults that is password protected.
And one for the kids that is not password protected.
And for the account for the adults obviously I would like no websites to be blocked.
And for the kids account instead of blocking specific sites I would rather only allow specific sites.
Thanks for reading and any input is appreciated
Jared
Edit: Chrome is the browser of choice for what I want to do. Firefox will do. And If I absolutely must I will set up only IE for the kids.Last edited by jared8783; April 6th, 2012 at 03:36 PM.

Should probably read things like this:

Yeah in this case running some sort of parental control software might be best. You'd get more options as well as some tracking for making sure they aren't doing something you don't want. You might look at some of the add-ons chrome offers as well. Something like this add-on might work for what you want.
You could also edit the Windows Host file to only allow those sites you want or use a site that offers DNS filtering.

thanks for the replies
i will be looking into what you have suggested soon
for now i want to tell you what i did try
i went into the into the internet settings and pointed all my traffic at a proxy 127.0.0.1 essentially blocking all websites
then i added exceptions
but facebook didnt work properly
youtube wouldnt load at all
and pbs kids barely loaded with no images
im guessing it is because there is content on these sites that are hosted under different address
such as images and what not
you know what i mean? i dont know the technical termonology for what i am saying but i do believe i do know what i am talking about
thanks again

Well 127.0.0.01 means you are pointing the computer to look for the internet connection at itself hence why nothing works at all.

yes that is the point exactly
that is why i then added sites that were exempt from that proxy connection
what i am saying is that some sites that were exempt didn't properly work
i think because they had content on the site hosted under a different url

You need to have some kind of proxy software running on your own machine then

no problem. With mine, 560 Ti's in SLI, I don't get much GPU usage with internet, they'll heat up to maybe 40-45C, 50 if the room is warm, with GPU acceleration in the browser. otherwise mine...
SLI problem? :(
