    Setup screen for Netopia 3347NWG-006

I realize Netopia is no longer around.

A friend had given me awhile ago a Netopia 3347NG-006 modem/router. I have considered this as a replacement for my Westell 6100. But I can not get to the setup screen of the Netopia.

I plug it in, power it up, attach my dsl telephone cord to it, and an Ethernet cable to it. I then try to get into the setup screen at 192.168.1.254, But the connection times out.

    Any thoughts ?

Sounds like you are using the wrong IP. Most routers default to something like 192.168.1.1, the IP you are using is likely the one for your computer. From the command line run ipconfig and look at the IP for the default gateway. That should be the IP for the router and the one you'd need for the setup page.

Thanks ! I was able to get to the setup page for the 3347NWG. I even put in the necessary username/password and attempted to establish connection. The router said that a connection was established and I should close the browser window and re-open the browser. But when I did so I was not able to go to any website.

Evidently some setting has to be set in order to use the 3374NWG with my AT&T ISP. Any ideas what that would be ?

It sounds like you might have PPOE. If so you'll need to correct that info. in the router to match what the ISP has given you. You say AT&T so I assume DSL?

Correction- I do see that you mention DSL.

Yes the connection is PPPoE with AT&T. How do I set that in the 3347NWG setup screens ?

Furthermore I will eventually want to use the 3347NWG just as a modem and connect it to a new WNDR3800 router. For my current Westell 6100 that means setting the modem to "Bridge Ethernet" with a VPI/VCI of 8/35. What is the equivalent setting with the 3347NWG ?

There should be options in the setup when you log into the mode/router. As far as bridging goes you would turn off DHCP in the router and connect a lan cable from the modem port to the WAN port in the router. I think I have this right.

ATT should be able to walk you through these settings on the modem. Netopia modems are still used in plenty of cases and ive had to call support for them to ensure that they are setup correctly to the circuit. If you still have issues with the modem, give them a call to walk you through it.

There are lots of options in the setup. Which are the right ones to set to actually connect to the Internet correctly or to use the modem with the Netgear router is the problem.

I will try finding a manual for the Netopia online somewhere and/or contacting AT&T.

I'm hope they can help but I have a feeling they may not. That is because they did not supply me with the Netopia but as a home user, and not a business user, supplied me with the Westell instead. But I will try.

Usually the first page of the setup in the modem/router will have the input fields for the PPOE info.

With the help of AT&T I was able to get the Netopia 3347NWG-006 to connect to the Internet. So it is now working, and I can get into the modem's setup screens and change whatever I need. Thanks for all the help I was given here. If I have further questions about the Netopia setup screens I will ask it here in another thread. Again thanks for all those who replied.
