hi all,

i recently installed avg antivirus and firewall and when i uninstalled it, the firewall remained active even though the program is no longer listed and worse when i tried to load avira i was told to uninstall the avg manually but it is already uninstalled...

thanks for any suggestions

Get the AVG Remover
AVG | Download tools and utilities

well, i downloaded and ran the AVG remover and it found two files both of which i deleted and the firewall still registers AVG and won't load avira??

any other suggestions except a lobotomy?

You could do a system restore to a day right before you did the first uninstall..

Or install Microsoft's Security Essentials instead of avira.

Avira has a way better detection rate then M$!!!

thanks for ideas, MSE doesn't like non-genuine windows so....that leaves the restore...
i'm fairly new to computers so this is a big learning curve, a restore sounds serious...
the whole problem started when i tried to change internet providers, when i plugged in my new sim, it simply refused to open any web pages and said the dns server refused to recognise the number, that was why the AVG, i thought that a new anti vir/firewall program would release the block out but it made it worse and so...
i hope i don't annoy you all with too many simpleton questions, there will be more
